Avon (South Australia) calling with a focus on food
Avon is a rural farming community north of Adelaide that is about to hold is
annual community festival.
The festival, held on the first Tuesday in September, attracts roughly 80 community members who come together to celebrate Adult Learner Week.
The celebration show cases to the wider community what they have learnt, their achievements and recognises those who have volunteer their time in this rural community.
This year's event will be "a focus on food and sharing" after some of the
local ladies completed a health cooking course probably inspired by the
cooking shows on TV of late.
During the day the ladies will run cooking demonstration and tips.
The day is about the community coming together and sharing information and enjoyment and to escape the pressures and the isolation that farmers and their families can face.
In addition the local rural women come together weekly and teach each other
different skills from how to knit themselves skills such as how to knit a
jumper or cook a new dish.
The organising committee would like to make up show bags for the participants with information like recipes and possibly samples for the participants to try, but as this day is organised on very little funds we are seeking support of different organisations and companies. If you are able to help us on this occasion and see this as a great opportunity to promote your business and products.
The major donations will receive a photo and story as a followup to the event in this Community section.
